Food - Its Been A Rough Road

I take the making, baking, and cooking of food as a personal challenge. I was never good in the kitchen growing up, in fact, my family still teases me about a few choice mistakes TO THIS DAY! Once, I made blueberry muffins... except that I used pancake mix instead of muffin mix. Another time, I made banana bread... except that I used powdered milk instead of flour. Talk about a dense loaf haha. I could burn anything, ruin any recipe, and basically was known for bad cooking skills. My family (particular my dear sister Allison, whom I greatly admire for her kitchen prowess <3 ) made fun of me so much that I eventually just gave up being in the kitchen, and I never developed some skills! The first time I made dinner for my husband (3rd or 4th date) I made spaghetti, and it was AWFUL. I'm talking noodles still stiff in the middle, cold tasteless sauce, burnt and oversalted garlic bread... Nate will readily admit he didn't marry me for my cooking!
I started off with a goal of cooking my way through a single, simple cookbook. When I finished a few weeks later I realized that wasn't so bad, so I started another one. Suddenly Nate was actually saying YUM at mealtimes instead of just politely eating whatever was on the plate! After a few more books, I discovered one night that I was able to look at my available choice of meat, veggies, and pantry items and figure out on my own how to make a yummy dish! Success! While I hope to get better at that, I LOVE cookbooks and will continue to work through them. I also subscribe to allrecipes.com and often plan my shopping trips around the recipes I'm sent. I'll post about the recipes that my family loved, as well as some that only I loved since I have far more adventurous tastebuds than they do :D

Why Not?

This is really for me. A place to write about the cute and amazing things that Savannah and Allie do and say, to gush or vent about my husband Nate, to toss in successful recipes, and to make and work on various goals in my life. Nothing is ever stable being married to a sailor, but I love this life we have together, and who knows? Maybe something written on this blog will help out someone else with their troubles. This is really for me, but go ahead and share with anyone who might be interested in anything I have to say :)
